Do I need to speak Irish to study in Ireland?

No, all university programs are taught in English. Irish (Gaelic) is an official language but is not required for higher education. An English level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent is generally required.

Can I work while studying in Ireland?

Yes! International students can work up to 20 hours per week during term and 40 hours during holidays. After graduation, the Stay Back Visa allows you to remain for 1 year (2 years for Master’s graduates) to seek employment.

What is the CAO and how does it work?

The Central Applications Office (CAO) is Ireland’s centralized application system for undergraduate programs. You can list up to 10 programs in order of preference. Places are allocated based on your academic results. For Master’s programs, you apply directly to each university.

Is Dublin expensive for students?

Dublin is Ireland’s most expensive city, especially for housing. However, costs remain lower than London. Cities like Cork, Galway, and Limerick offer excellent quality of life at more affordable prices. Budget around €800–1,200/month for rent in Dublin vs. €500–800 in other cities.
