Frequently asked questions

When are the LLM application deadlines for 2027 entry?

Harvard Law School closes on 1 December 2026 and Columbia Law School on 2 December 2026, both for the 2027-28 year (sources: Harvard Law School, Columbia Law School, consulted 5 September 2026). LSE and UCL run rolling admissions from October until the programme is full; UCL closed visa applicants on 26 June 2026 for 2026 entry. Aim for October to be safe.

How much does an LLM cost in London and New York?

For 2026/27, LSE charges 24,500 GBP for home students and 39,900 GBP for overseas students; UCL charges 24,100 GBP and 39,200 GBP respectively (sources: LSE, UCL, consulted 5 September 2026). Columbia adds an 85 USD application fee, waived for applications filed by 15 September 2026. Living costs and US tuition come on top.

What English test score does an LLM require?

Columbia Law School asks for IELTS 8.0 overall or, for the TOEFL iBT taken before 21 January 2026, a minimum of 105; scores must be sent through LSAC and be less than 2 years old (source: Columbia Law School, consulted 5 September 2026). LSE and UCL set their own law-specific levels. We prepare IELTS in 10, 20 or 30-hour packs.

Do I need the LSAT for an LLM?

No. US LLM programmes use the LSAC Credential Assembly Service for transcripts, recommendations and English scores, but they do not require the LSAT; Columbia lists a personal statement, a CV, two recommendation letters and an English test (source: Columbia Law School, consulted 5 September 2026). UK LLMs require a law degree, for example a first or very high 2:1 at LSE.

How does Your Dream School coach an LLM application?

We start with a 2-hour positioning assessment, then select up to 12 programmes in the UK and the US, write the personal statement and essays with the candidate, brief the two recommenders, and manage the LSAC file so that transcripts and scores arrive before 2 December. Our master results include LLM admissions to Harvard, Columbia, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Cornell, Duke, NYU and LSE.
