Applications for ESADE’s September 2027 intake are open, and unlike most leading European business schools, there is no single deadline to circle in your calendar. The Barcelona school runs rolling admissions: files are reviewed as they come in, right through to June 2027, for as long as places remain. On paper that sounds flexible. In practice, it is a system that strongly rewards early applicants. Here is what that means concretely if you are in your final year of school and aiming for the BBA or one of the double degrees.

No deadline, but a real race for places

ESADE confirms on its admissions pages that the application for September 2027 can be submitted now, with a non-refundable 150 euro application fee, and that applications stay open until June 2027 “as long as there are places left”. That last phrase is the key. Cohorts fill progressively, and an excellent file submitted in April can only win a place that still exists. One more feature of the system matters for planning: once admitted, you typically have two to three weeks to confirm your place by paying a first instalment of 25 percent of tuition. Families should think that financial decision through at application stage, not at offer stage.

For a serious candidate, the right window is the autumn: a complete file submitted between October and December reaches the committee while every place is still open, and leaves you the spring to weigh ESADE against the other schools on your list.

The academic level ESADE actually expects

ESADE describes its evaluation as holistic, with no official minimum grades for international applicants, but it publishes precise reference points by school system. Admitted students with the French baccalauréat average 15.7/20. For the IB, the school asks for at least 32 predicted points, and admitted students average 36/42. Admitted A-level candidates range from AAB to A*A*A*, and a US file is expected around a 3.3/4.0 unweighted GPA or higher. Mathematics carries particular weight: depending on the programme, a minimum of 7 to 8 out of 10 in maths is required. A strong maths record over the last two years of school remains the foundation of a credible file, as we break down in our page on ESADE score requirements.

ESADE test or SAT: the strategic choice this autumn

Every candidate must sit an admissions assessment, and there are two routes. The first is ESADE’s own admission test: an online test of about three hours, offered several times a week from October to June. For business programmes it combines three timed sections (sufficiency of information in 30 minutes, numerical analysis in 35 minutes, logical reasoning in 35 minutes), followed by an English assessment of 80 to 90 minutes with an essay and multiple choice questions. Two rules change everything: wrong answers in the main test are penalised with negative marking, and the test can only be taken once. There is no second attempt, so it should be prepared like a genuine competitive exam. Our guide to the ESADE admissions test covers each section in detail.

The second route is to submit a SAT or ACT instead. ESADE lists a minimum SAT score of 1200, but admitted students average 1350, and that is the level to aim for. On the ACT, the minimum is 24 and the admitted average is 30. If you are already preparing the SAT for other applications, this route removes the risk of ESADE’s one-shot test. The next SAT dates are 7 November 2026 (register by 23 October, late registration until 27 October) and 5 December 2026 (register by 20 November), before the next window on 6 March 2027.

English: precise score thresholds to certify

Unless you qualify for an exemption (notably schooling fully in English over the last two and a half years), you must certify your English level. The published thresholds are demanding: 7.0 on IELTS Academic, 100 on the TOEFL iBT (5.0 on the new 2026 TOEFL scale), 160 on the Duolingo English Test, 190 on Cambridge C1 Advanced, 76 on PTE Academic. A SAT with 650 in Evidence-Based Reading or an ACT with 27 in English also counts as proof. These are thresholds comparable to top UK universities: they are very reachable, but they need a plan, and a well organised autumn is usually enough.

The October timeline we recommend

For a September 2027 ESADE application, this is the sequence that works: finalise your academic file and English certification in October and November, book your test (the ESADE test, or the SAT on 7 November or 5 December), and submit a complete application before the Christmas break. You reach the admissions committee when the number of open places is at its highest, while keeping full control of the rest of your school list.
