Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between GMAT Focus Edition and Classic?
GMAT Focus Edition (launched 2024) features a shorter test (2h 15m vs 3h 30m), no essay section, new Data Insights module, and a streamlined Analytical Writing component. Score scale is 205-805 instead of 200-800. All business schools now prefer Focus scores. We exclusively prepare for GMAT Focus Edition.
When should I take the GMAT for MBA applications?
Ideal timeline: Take GMAT by July for Round 1 applications (September), September for Round 2 (November), or January for Round 3 (March). Earlier submission strengthens your candidacy. Most MBA programs begin accepting applications in August. Plan to complete 16-20 weeks of prep before your target test date.
Should I take GMAT or GRE for MBA programs?
GMAT is the traditional standard and still preferred by most MBA programs. However, many top schools now accept GRE equally. GMAT is more business-focused with data insights. Take whichever you score highest on, but research your target MBA program’s preferences. Most still recommend GMAT for MBA.
How long are GMAT scores valid?
GMAT scores are valid for 5 years from your test date. Most MBA programs prefer scores from the past 3 years. If your score is older than 5 years, you must retake the test. Plan accordingly with your MBA application timeline.
Can I retake the GMAT if I don’t hit my target score?
Yes! You can retake the GMAT up to 5 times in a 12-month period with 16-day waiting periods between attempts. Most successful candidates retake 1-2 times. Business schools see all attempts, so demonstrate improvement. Our premium plan includes a free exam fee retake if you miss your target.
