Why prepare for the PTE Academic with us?
The PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a computer-based English test, taken at an approved test center, that assesses all four skills in a single session of about 2 hours. It measures your ability to follow classes taught in English at university, at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
It is accepted by more than 4,000 universities and schools worldwide, including almost every institution in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and New Zealand, and widely in the United States. Selective universities require a high score, and its fast results make it the most flexible test when an admissions deadline is approaching.
Your Dream School prepares you with an expert PTE teacher, a study plan built after a level assessment, and marked practice tests taken under real exam conditions.

Take a free PTE Academic practice test
Our free practice test covers all 22 question types in the same order as the real exam. You receive an estimated score and a question-by-question breakdown by email, before you even choose a package.
The PTE Academic format
The PTE Academic is taken on a computer at an approved test centre. It cannot be taken from home. A single session of about 2 hours covers all four skills, and Pearson has more than 500 test centres in over 115 countries.
- Part 1, Speaking & Writing: 76 to 84 minutes, 9 question types (Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, Answer Short Question, Respond to a Situation, Summarize Written Text, Write Essay).
- Part 2, Reading: 22 to 30 minutes, 5 question types.
- Part 3, Listening: 31 to 39 minutes, 8 question types.
- Describe Image involves graphs, line charts, diagrams and flowcharts: you need to describe the trends and quote the figures, not tell the story of a picture.
Our free PTE Academic mock test follows this exact structure: all 22 question types, in the same order as the real exam. You’ll receive an estimated score by email, with a question-by-question breakdown of what you got right and wrong.
How is the PTE Academic scored?
The PTE Academic is scored from 10 to 90 on the Global Scale of English. You receive an overall score and a score for each skill (speaking, writing, reading and listening). Marking combines artificial intelligence and human review, with no examiner in the room with you.
Results usually arrive within 48 hours, though in some cases it can take up to 5 working days. A PTE score is valid for 2 years.
- Foundation year: usually 36 to 50.
- Bachelor’s: usually 51 to 60.
- Master’s: usually 57 to 67.
- Each institution sets its own minimum, so always check your university’s admissions page.
PTE, IELTS or TOEFL: which test should you choose?
The PTE Academic, IELTS, TOEFL and the Duolingo English Test are not all accepted by the same institutions. The PTE stands out for its short format (2 hours) and very fast results. Below is the equivalence table published by Pearson (July 2025 concordance study).
| PTE Academic score | IELTS Academic equivalent | CEFR level |
|---|---|---|
| 39 | 5.5 | B1 / B2 |
| 47 | 6.0 | B2 |
| 55 | 6.5 | B2 |
| 63 | 7.0 | C1 |
| 71 | 7.5 | C1 |
| 79 | 8.0 | C1 / C2 |
| 86 | 8.5 | C2 |
Please note: for a work visa or for study below degree level in the UK, you’ll need the PTE Academic UKVI. The content, format and scoring are identical; it simply adds a unique reference number.
