IE University Application Guide 2026: Steps, Documents and Tips

In short: IE University accepts applications on a rolling basis through its online portal. You need to submit your transcripts, a CV, a personal statement and two letters of recommendation, take the ieGAT (or the SAT/ACT), complete an online assessment, and then pass a personal interview. Apply as early as possible, as places are limited.

Timeline and key dates

IE University uses rolling admissions: there is no fixed deadline, but places are allocated as applications come in. For September 2026 entry, here is the recommended timeline:

PeriodRecommended action

January to March 2026Submit your online application, take the ieGAT
March to May 2026Complete the online assessment and the interview
May to July 2026Last chance: very few places left at this stage

Step 1: Prepare your application

Before you start your online application, gather all the documents you need. A complete, carefully prepared application significantly increases your chances of admission. The required documents are:

  • High school transcripts: for the last 3 years, translated into English if necessary
  • One-page CV: highlighting your extracurricular activities, leadership and achievements
  • Personal statement: an essay explaining why you chose IE University and your program
  • Two letters of recommendation: ideally one from a teacher and one from a mentor or employer
  • English test: TOEFL (min. 90), IELTS (min. 6.5), Cambridge (min. B2 First) or Duolingo (min. 110)
  • A copy of your passport and a recent passport photo
  • Portfolio: only for the Design and Architecture programs

Step 2: Online application

Create an account on the IE University admissions portal (apply.ie.edu). Fill in every section carefully: personal details, academic background, program choice and preferred campus. You can save your application and come back to it later. The application fee is around €125 and is non-refundable.

Step 3: The ieGAT or SAT/ACT

The ieGAT is IE University’s own admissions test. It is taken online, lasts 90 minutes and assesses verbal, numerical and logical reasoning. You must have completed at least 25% of your application before you can take it. Alternatively, IE accepts the SAT (minimum 1200) or the ACT (minimum 24). Step 4: Online assessment

This step consists of a video and written assessment completed online. You will answer questions designed to show your critical thinking, communication skills and motivation. It is your chance to show your personality beyond your academic record. Prepare by practicing structured answers to open-ended questions.

Step 5: Personal interview

If your profile is shortlisted, the Admissions Committee will invite you to a personal interview (in person or by video call). The interview lasts about 30 minutes and covers your background, your motivations, your career plans and your understanding of the program you have chosen. Be authentic, well informed about IE University and ready to explain why you are a strong candidate.

Strategic tips to maximize your chances

  1. Apply early: the most popular programs (BBA, International Relations) fill up quickly
  2. Polish your personal statement: show your personality, not just your grades
  3. Prepare seriously for the ieGAT: practice with logical reasoning tests
  4. Apply for scholarships at the same time: funding is limited and awarded on a rolling basis
  5. Prepare for the interview: research IE University thoroughly and have some thoughtful questions ready
