Three national UK rankings have now published their 2027 editions, each with a different methodology, and they agree on one thing: the University of Warwick sits 7th in the country in the Guardian University Guide 2027 (published 12 September), in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027 (published 18 September) and in the Complete University Guide 2027. Internationally, Warwick climbed 6 places to 68th in the QS World University Rankings 2027. For families who still frame UK applications as “Oxbridge, LSE or nothing”, that convergence deserves attention, because Warwick is one of the most consistent universities in the British top 10, and the admissions calendar is live right now: a key test deadline falls on 28 September, and the UCAS deadline is 13 January 2027.
Three rankings, one verdict
A single strong position can be an artefact of one ranking’s weightings. Three simultaneous 7th places, earned under different criteria (student satisfaction for the Guardian, outcomes and graduate prospects for the Times, entry standards and staffing ratios for the Complete University Guide), tell a different story: consistent quality with no major weak spot. The most useful signal for an applicant, though, is elsewhere. According to High Fliers’ Graduate Market 2026 report, Warwick is the 4th most targeted university in the UK among the country’s leading graduate employers. The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027 also named it runner up for University of the Year for Graduate Employment. In plain terms: at a comparable level of selectivity, few universities give you better access to recruiters in finance, consulting and tech, which is exactly what most applicants weighing Warwick against LSE or top European business schools are looking for.
What Warwick actually asks for
Warwick publishes unusually transparent entry requirements. Typical offers at A-level range from ABB up to A*A*A depending on the course, and the most competitive programmes sit at the top of that scale. Economics, one of the most selective degrees on campus, carries a standard offer of A*AA including an A in Mathematics. For international qualifications, Warwick publishes official conversion grids. For the French Baccalauréat, for example, an overall 13/20 maps to ABB, 14/20 to AAB, 15/20 to AAA, 16/20 to A*AA and 17/20 to A*A*A, with subject requirements assessed on the relevant Spécialité grade in the final year (16/20 for an A, 17/20 for an A*, and 18/20 in Spécialité Maths for the pure maths courses).
For English, Warwick groups its courses into three bands: IELTS 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each component), 6.5 (minimum 6.0) or 7.0 (minimum 6.5). If you take a test, it must have been sat within two years and one month of the start of your course.
The TMUA: the lever too many applicants ignore
This is the most strategic part of a Warwick application, and the most urgent. For 2027 entry, the TMUA is required for Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics, and expected for Mathematics (TMUA or STEP). It is optional but explicitly encouraged for Economics, Economics and Management, MORSE, Mathematics and Statistics, and Data Science.
Optional does not mean cosmetic. Warwick’s economics department states that a strong TMUA score can bring the offer down from A*AA to AAA, and that in the 2025 cycle the majority of mathematics offers went to applicants who scored 5.0 or above on the test. An applicant whose grades sit just below a course’s typical offer can use the TMUA to add one objective, standardised proof of ability to the file. Warwick is clear that applicants who do not sit the test receive full consideration, but a good score is a genuine differentiator.
The timeline is tight. Registration for the October sitting (tests from 12 to 16 October, results on 16 November) closes on Monday 28 September at 6pm UK time: we published a dedicated piece on the 28 September deadline for ESAT, TMUA and TARA. A second sitting runs from 4 to 8 January 2027 (registration until 21 December, results on 8 February), and unlike Oxford and Cambridge, which require the October sitting, Warwick applicants can still use it. Your calendar between now and January
The UCAS equal consideration deadline for 2027 entry is 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time, as confirmed by UCAS. Between now and then, a strong Warwick file comes together in this order: lock in your test strategy before 28 September if you want the October TMUA sitting, sit your English test in the autumn so you keep room for a retake, and finish a personal statement that demonstrates real academic engagement with your subject rather than a list of activities. Leaving the writing to the winter holidays remains the most common mistake, and the most expensive one.
