Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
Requirements depend on your program and school curriculum. Check the required subjects and competitive admission range for your qualification; there is no universal 90% threshold.
English Proficiency
IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, with 6.5 in writing/speaking and 6.0 in reading/listening; an alternative 7.0 overall with all bands at least 6.0 is also accepted. TOEFL iBT taken from January 21, 2026: 4.5 overall with 5 in writing/speaking. Earlier tests use the previous scale. Check accepted tests, validity and exemption rules on the official English requirements page.
Assessment Tests
Engineering (except Architecture) requires an AIF and online interview. Mathematics contests such as Euclid and CSMC are optional for admission but required for some scholarships. Follow your program’s supplementary requirements.
Application Deadlines
September 2027 undergraduate entry: Engineering (except Architecture), apply by January 15, 2027 and submit documents by February 1. Other programs: apply by February 1 and submit documents by February 15. Professional programs have specific dates; graduate deadlines vary. See the official calendar.
Application Platform
Undergraduate applicants, including international applicants, apply through OUAC, then complete the checklist in Waterloo’s applicant portal. Graduate applications follow a separate process. See how to apply.
Other Materials
The Admission Information Form is used for Engineering (except Architecture), Mathematics and Computing and Financial Management. Other requirements depend on the program; references and portfolios are not universal requirements. Consult the official supplementary forms guide.
