About the University of Leeds
The University of Leeds is a research university founded in 1904 and a member of the Russell Group. Its location in Leeds, Yorkshire, combines a university campus with life in a large UK city.
To choose a course, compare its modules, assessment methods, entry requirements and opportunities for practical experience. Check the details for your intended year of entry rather than relying on a university-wide ranking.

Arts at Leeds: two different institutions
The University of Leeds has a Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. It should not be confused with Leeds Arts University, which is a separate institution with its own courses and admissions process.
Check the name of the awarding university when comparing creative courses, portfolios and application requirements.
Entry requirements
Academic and English-language requirements are specific to each course. There is no single school-leaving grade or IELTS score that guarantees admission across the university.
If you studied outside the UK, check how your qualification is assessed and whether the course requires particular subjects or additional selection steps. Start with Leeds’ international application information.
Undergraduate applications
Undergraduate applicants normally apply through UCAS. Choose your course, review its requirements and prepare your academic details, personal statement responses and reference.
For 2027 entry, the main equal-consideration deadline is 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time. Earlier-deadline courses, including most medicine and dentistry courses, have a 15 October 2026 deadline.
Check your course page and the official UCAS calendar before submitting.
Master’s applications
Apply through the university’s applicant portal. Applications for the 2027/28 academic year open on 1 October 2026.
Prepare your degree certificate and transcripts, or an interim transcript if you are still studying. Supply evidence of English proficiency if available. Depending on the course, a CV, references, portfolio or personal statement may also be needed. Documents must be in English or accompanied by certified translations.
Course and scholarship deadlines vary. Follow the official master’s application instructions for your programme.
Tuition and living costs
Tuition depends on the degree, course, entry year and fee status. Check the course page and the international fees and costs information before setting your budget.
Allow for accommodation, food, transport, study materials and personal expenses. Check accommodation contract dates, deposits and which bills are included. Include travel and any applicable visa-related costs in your moving budget.
Scholarships and funding
Scholarships have their own eligibility rules, amounts and application deadlines. An offer of admission does not automatically mean you will receive funding.
Explore the international scholarships directory and read the conditions of each award for your entry year.
Build a budget you can assess realistically before relying on a scholarship that has not yet been awarded.
Planning student life
Explore accommodation options, transport connections, student societies and the facilities you expect to use. An open day or campus visit can help you judge how the course, campus and city fit your priorities.
Preparing for the move
Keep academic admission and immigration arrangements separate in your planning. If you need a visa, consult current official guidance and follow the university’s instructions for offer holders. Organise documents and housing early enough to meet the relevant deadlines.
