🚨 Is your situation urgent? Act now

If you have received a Parcoursup rejection in the past few days, don’t wait for the end of the supplementary phase to put a plan B in place. The sooner you apply to a university abroad, the stronger your application (places still available, less pressure on visa fees, time to prepare an F-1 or Tier 4 visa if needed). Book your guidance assessment with YDS: we assess your profile and suggest a timeline within 48 hours.

Why Parcoursup turns down so many students in 2026

In mid-June 2025, Parcoursup had around 91,000 applicants without an offer, and that number is expected to rise in 2026 as demand grows for selective programmes (medicine, BUT, IFSI, double degrees). The most competitive programmes are STAPS, law, medicine, public art schools (ENSBA, Beaux-Arts) and CPGE preparatory classes. If you are rejected from these programmes, waiting for the supplementary phase often leads only to a default placement on a programme you don’t really want, at a university far from home.

Studying abroad offers three practical advantages: (1) admission calendars that run until July or even August, (2) holistic selection based on your full application (personal statement, background, languages) rather than a ranking algorithm, and (3) degrees taught in English that do more for your profile in the long run (Master’s, international career).

7 options abroad to get back on track in 2026

1United Kingdom: UCAS late applications & Clearinguntil 30 June 2026

UCAS accepts late applications until 30 June 2026 for most universities outside the top 10 (Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and LSE close in January). After 30 June, UCAS Clearing opens: depending on the subject, you can still secure a place at Russell Group universities until the end of August. Universities YDS recommends for Clearing: Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, King’s College London. See our complete UCAS guide.

2Netherlands: late admissions to English-taught programmesuntil 1 June 2026

Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Tilburg) accept applications until 1 June 2026 for the September intake. Programmes are taught in English, tuition fees are around €9,000 a year for EU students, and student life is highly international. They are especially well suited to students interested in business, IT, design and hospitality. See our Netherlands admissions guide.

3Spain: IE University, ESADE, IE Madrid (rolling admissions)until July 2026

IE University Madrid/Segovia and ESADE Barcelona offer rolling admissions until July for their English-taught Bachelor’s programmes. Selection is based on your application plus a Skype interview, with decisions usually announced within 4–6 weeks. You can receive a decision in July and start in September. The Bachelor in Business Administration and Bachelor in Communications are the most accessible programmes at this stage. See our IE University guide and our ESADE guide.

4Italy: Bocconi late round & English-taught programmesBocconi 3rd round: April–June

Bocconi University in Milan has 3 admission rounds; the 3rd round closes in June for a September start. Its English-taught programmes (BIEM, BIEF, BAI, World Bachelor in Business) admit students based on their application plus the Bocconi Test. IUSS Pavia and Sapienza Roma also offer English-taught Bachelor’s programmes with late admissions.

5Ireland: CAO late applicationsuntil 1 July 2026

Ireland’s CAO system accepts late applications until 1 July, and its Available Places system stays open until the end of August. Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University of Galway and Cork have places available in humanities, business and engineering. Fees are around €3,000–15,000 depending on the programme.

6Canada: rolling admissions (McGill, Toronto, UBC)until June 2026

Several Canadian universities accept applications until June for the September intake, including McGill University in Montreal, Concordia, Université de Montréal (taught in French, for French-speaking applicants) and some faculties at Toronto and UBC. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programmes are open; professional programmes (medicine, law) close early. See our McGill guide.

7United States: transfer / community college pathwayspring start or fall 2027 intake

Four-year US Bachelor’s programmes close applications in early January, so it’s too late for September 2026. But ambitious students have two options: (a) the community college pathway (start in September 2026 at a Californian community college partnered with UC Berkeley/UCLA, then transfer in year 2 or 3); (b) a spring start in January 2027 at certain universities (Northeastern, Drexel, ASU, NYU Shanghai). YDS builds these pathways with the students it coaches within a few weeks.

FAQ: Parcoursup rejection & studying abroad

Which countries still accept Bachelor’s applications until July 2026?

The main ones: the UK (UCAS late applications and Clearing until the end of August), the Netherlands (until 1 June), Ireland (CAO late applications until 1 July), Spain (rolling admissions until July at IE/ESADE), Canada (rolling admissions at several universities) and Italy (Bocconi’s 3rd round). The US is closed for September 2026, but you can still get in through a community college or a spring 2027 start.

Will my application be weaker if I apply in July rather than January?

Not in itself: selection is based on academic merit, not on when you apply. But there are fewer places left in July, especially on selective programmes (medicine, top-tier business). To maximise your chances, target 5–8 universities with a mix of safe, target and reach schools, apply quickly, and have a coach review your personal statements.

How long does it take to get a student visa?

For EU countries (Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland), you don’t need a visa if you’re an EU citizen. For the UK (Tier 4 / Student Route), allow 3–4 weeks after you receive your CAS from the university. For the US (F-1), allow 4–6 weeks after you receive your I-20. A Canadian study permit takes 4–12 weeks. Start the process as soon as you have your official admission letter.

Are there application fees for applying to several universities?

Yes: UCAS costs ~£22 for 5 universities, IE University ~€150, ESADE ~€150, McGill ~CAD 115, and US universities ~$75–100 each. Budget €300–700 in application fees for a full set of applications to 5–8 universities. It’s the most cost-effective investment in your post-Parcoursup strategy.

If I don’t have a TOEFL/IELTS score, is it too late?

No. You can sit the TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic within 1–2 weeks (test dates available twice a week in Paris), and results arrive within 7–10 days. YDS offers fast-track preparation designed for students on a tight deadline. Target score: TOEFL iBT 90+ or IELTS 6.5+ for most English-taught Bachelor’s programs.

How much does studying abroad cost compared with studying at home?

Netherlands: €9,000/year. Ireland: €3,000–15,000/year. Spain (IE/ESADE): €18,000–25,000/year. UK: £9,250–30,000/year. US: $30,000–65,000/year. Canada: CAD 7,000–30,000/year. Erasmus+ grants, Crous mobility grants, Fulbright and university scholarships can cut the cost by 30 to 80%.
